Quotes

With self-discipline most anything is possible.

-Theodore Roosevelt

"With self-discipline, most anything is possible." This quote speaks to the power of self-control and determination in achieving our goals. It reminds us that with a little bit of discipline and focus, we can overcome almost any obstacle and accomplish our dreams.

Self-discipline is not something that comes naturally to everyone. It requires effort and practice to develop, but it is a crucial habit to cultivate if we want to be successful. It allows us to set boundaries for ourselves, prioritize our tasks, and make the choices that will help us achieve our goals.

But self-discipline is not just about working hard and avoiding distractions. It's also about making smart, healthy choices that will help us sustain our efforts over the long term. That means getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and eating well. It means finding ways to manage stress and stay focused, even when things get tough.

One of the key decisions I made when working through my depression was setting a schedule. I set a specific time to wake up, an exercise routine, a self-help/meditation routine, and a self-reflection routine. Having a routine gave me structure and a purpose for my day. It made me feel more in control of what I wanted out of a day instead of feeling overwhelmed. When I had severe depression I felt like I had zero control of anything. Everyone and everything had more control of my life than I did. It frustrated me and sent me deeper into a spiral of negativity.

When I set a routine up for my personal life, it filtered over into my professional. As a professor I organized my class and put in clear objectives I wanted to accomplish. It made my students respect me more because I always knew they liked me but they liked whatever they were doing more. So putting in rules, enforcing them and keeping everything on track, gave me a sense of purpose and allowed me to feel more in control. Also setting boundaries between work and personal life helped as I made sure to schedule marking time, email response time and class planning time instead of doing it on a whim.

The next time you're faced with a challenge or a goal, remember the quote "With self-discipline, most anything is possible." It's a reminder that with a little bit of focus and determination, you can achieve almost anything you set your mind to.
